Approach - onboarding Ambulance drivers

Here are the different approaches that were tried to convince ambulance drivers to become part of the network.

First approach - Ambulance owners + hospitals approach (Worked partially)

This approach helped us acquire detailed information about ambulances available in the state, but couldn't get the network operational.

  1. Our first thought process was to approach the ambulance owners and drivers through hospitals. We felt it was the easiest way, considering all the stakeholders already knew each other.

  2. A list of operational ambulances was created with the help of ambulance owners, doctors at IMA, and hospitals.

  3. Details collected about each ambulance

    1. Driver details

      1. Name

      2. Phone Number

      3. Has smart phone?

    2. Ambulance details

      1. Vehicle registration number (unique identifier)

      2. Ambulance type

        1. Single chamber

        2. Double chamber (Non-critical care)

        3. Critical care

      3. Ambulance facilities

        1. Defibrillator

        2. Oxygen

        3. Suction Machine

        4. Ventilator

      4. Insurance validity

    3. Owner details

      1. Name

      2. Phone number

      3. Has smart phone?

    4. Cost per kilometre

    5. Serviceable districts

      1. Primary

      2. Secondary

      3. Tertiary

Read - How does the granular ambulance details help in case of an emergency?

  4. Our volunteer army then reached out to these drivers over the phone to inform them about the Superhero Network and urged them to join it by downloading the Superhero App on Google Play.

  5. The drivers were not very receptive to the idea as it was not coming from a person with authority. Only a handful of them signed up on the app.

Revised approach - Through Motor Vehicle Department's RTO Enforcement

  1. RTO Enforcement for Ernakulam district created a video urging the drivers to become a superhero for the state by joining the Ambulance Network.

  2. The video along with detailed walkthroughs of the app were shared in Malayalam (the local language)

  3. Once the authenticity of the Superhero Network was established by an authority the drivers trusted, more drivers started signing up.

  4. The Superhero Ambulance Network now has 70 ambulances ready to be deployed with near-real-time tracking.
